PROGRAM'S BACKGROUND

Valves are used to regulate the flow of fluids in piping systems. They are used to throttle flow, shut-off flow, reduce pressure, relieve pressure and prevent backflow. Valves are one of the simplest components in most piping systems, but the importance of proper valve selection cannot be overemphasized. Premature valve failure can result in loss of fluid pressure containment, which often leads to undesirable consequences. Before attempting to select a valve, the engineer should first gain a basic understanding of each type of valve and how it operates. A basic understanding of the theory, characteristics, and mechanical components of valves and actuators is also essential to understanding how they function and operate within a system or process.

This program focuses of the importance, use and maintenance of oil and gas devices such as valves, regulators, pumps and motors. The program also focuses on the selection, inspection and maintenance of the regulators, pumps and motors. Such focus will help participants identify and understand the operating principles of a range of devices. The purpose of this program is to offer an extensive study on the use of such devices and also the testing and maintenance of these devices. This program is designed as a comprehensive guide to oil and gas devices, it will help participants identify any problems that might occur on the devices and guide them to prepare maintenance schedules.

PROGRAM'S OBJECTIVES

This Program’s Attendees Will Be More Able To:

›       Prepare maintenance schedules for faulty oil and gas devices

›       Know the general requirements for assembly, maintenance and operation of oil and gas devices

›       Learn main types and operating characteristics of different oil and gas devices

›       Acknowledge the purpose of valves and the basic components of a valve, including the body, bonnet, disk, seat, etc.

›       Know about the construction, operation and relative merits of different types of throttling and shutoff valves, including gate, globe, ball, needle, butterfly, diaphragm, plug and pinch valves

›       Know types of check valves, including swing, tilting disk, lift, piston and butterfly check valves

›       Acquire important information on construction and operating differences of relief valves and safety valves

›       Determine which type of pump is best for a particular application
