PROGRAM'S BACKGROUND

Successful horizontal and multilateral wells require new considerations, interdisciplinary planning, and special techniques. This intense program addresses the critical need for a proper understanding of all aspects of horizontal and multilateral well drilling and completion processes that make these wells unique. The program is designed for those planning or working with horizontal and multilateral wells, and interested in effective use of the latest technology. The program also addresses basic understanding of important reservoir characteristics, hole stability, formation damage, and crucial zone isolation. There is also a highlight on the examination of the most recent well construction technologies and the reservoir characteristics required for designing horizontal and multilateral wells; description of specialized drilling strategies including extended reach, underbalanced drilling, coiled tubing drilling, and Geosteering; stimulation and sand control in advanced wells.

PROGRAM'S OBJECTIVES

This Program’s Attendees Will Be More Able To:

›       Be familiar with the reasons for drilling extended reach and horizontal wells and the implications on economics, formation evaluation, production and safety

›       Learn about well planning and design and the special considerations of horizontal wells for casing, drilling and completion fluids, hole cleaning and stuck pipe problems

›       Be aware of directional drilling applications and kick off techniques

›       Know about coiled tubing operations

›       Be aware of Well Completion technology, types and methods

›       Acquire important information on well design, steerable drilling tools, formation evaluation and Geosteering techniques

›       Design and optimize horizontal and multilateral wells

›       Determine the appropriate zonal isolation methods for horizontal and multilateral wells

›       Know reservoir characteristics influencing drilling and completion design

›       Acquire important information on completion types and methods: adaptability to reservoir types and management

›       Know about casing and liners (design, running, and cementing procedure)

›       Design damage removal, stimulation, and workover operations
